Transition on Tap: Transition Your Yard
While the weather is cold and snow is on the ground, it is the perfect time to begin re-imagining our yards!
Researchers estimate there are more than 40 million acres of turf grass in the USA, which results in heavy use of toxic chemicals, a loss of native habitat for pollinators and wildlife and negatively impacts our water systems (yuck!). They are also high-maintenance and, well, not very imaginative. This reality is causing more people to want to transition their yards to something more sustainable, for themselves and the Earth. And, Transition Longfellow is here to help!
January's Transition on Tap will be an informal get-together at the Himalayan Restaurant to begin rethinking our yards, to make them more beautiful, more sustainable and more productive. TL members who have done wild and creative things with their own laws, ranging from growing all kinds of food to creating wildlife habitat, will be on hand to share their experiences. PLUS: representatives from Chard Your Yard and Lawns to Legumes will be there to talk about initiatives going on in Longfellow this spring to help people transition their yards! We hope to see you there!
