Leslie MacKenzie (Transition Longfellow) and Rachel Hefte (Corcoran Grows) have developed a practical, skill-focused, and Twin Cities-specific series of Transition trainings designed to ground people in the range of issues that Transition covers while providing people an opportunity to practice facilitation skills and techniques for engaging groups of all sizes. The first session is THIS Sunday, 1 to 3:30 pm (we hope it is at Highland Park library but that is not yet confirmed). Training is every Sunday from Sept 18 through Oct 16. You do not need to attend all sessions but can register for each separately. The training is only $25 per session ... but we don't want anyone to be turned away by cost. The most important goal is to build this movement across the cities.
Session 1: The Big Picture
GROUNDING INFORMATION on Systems Theory: Putting the pieces together so we can reduce greenhouse gas emissions (mitigation) while we also prepare to live with a changing climate (adaptation). Big picture of the Transition Movement: The global and local Transition Movement – what it is, what it does, why it works (theory of change, research from the field of community based social marketing). Asset Based Community Development as a helpful theory and approach.
SKILL BUILDING: Individual and group visioning, asset mapping
